Description
Being over 20 years since the last 2nd Gen was sold new, it’s always possible that an axle has been swapped in your truck, or you have a mid-year production truck, so it’s a good idea to identify the actual model of your 2nd Gen axle.
The easiest way to do this, is to measure the center to center distance between the steering tie rod end joints, at the front of the steering knuckles. If your distance is 60.0″, you have a 1994-1999 axle. If the distance is 61.5″, you have the 2000-2002 axle.
The Thuren Fabrication Weld-In-Truss kit is made from 1.5”x.375” wall DOM tubing. This is the same tubing used as our Trackbars and Steering Components, providing serious strength. One continuous tube connecting the “C” on each side, is the best way to create an effective truss.
Compared to a fully boxed truss, the open design of our truss helps reduce the amount of welding required. This puts less heat and welding stress into the axle assembly, which is unavoidable during the welding process, to help prevent melting the seals and reduces axle deformation from heat.
This kit does require cutting, grinding, welding, and should be installed by an experienced welder. All parts suppled will take final fitment adjustments, for proper install.
